The new normal: our daily routine during lockdown

When I found out that I wouldn’t be working during the lockdown, I was slightly relieved simply because working from home can have its own challenges – sharing a workspace with my husband, the possibility of internet problems as everyone is working from home too…

But then reality kicked in – without work, what would I do during the lockdown period? I knew that I could only clean the flat and sort out cupboards for so long, and my limited attention span means that bing-watching Netflix for hours isn’t an option either.

On Day 1, I decided that we need a lockdown routine, which I’m going to share with you. We’re doing everything we can to keep ourselves busy and sane during this crazy time! Here’s a look at our new normal and what we plan to do every day for the next two weeks (side note: so far, we’ve been able to follow this routine – let’s see how long it lasts!).


I get up between 6:00 and 6:30…. I know – a lot of you probably think this is crazy because it’s so early, but I know it will make the transition from lockdown to going back to work easier.

After waking up, it’s coffee and breakfast time, and then Arnold goes to work at 7:00. The best part about mornings during lockdown is that I can make lunch for us later in the day – no need to make and pack sandwiches so early in the morning! We’ve enjoyed quite a few smoothies at lunch time thanks to our Nutribullet (I’m going to have to convince my employer that this is an essential item we need for our work kitchen *wink wink*).

Once Arnold’s at work, I workout for 30 minutes. Exercising has become an important part of my routine – it’s a great way to get the day started and it makes me feel good. Lounging around all day makes me feel sluggish, so these 30 minutes are really important for my physical and mental health.


To avoid afternoon naps (I don’t want to make a habit of sleeping in the day as this may become a problem when I go back to work!), I’ve started reading in the afternoon. It gives me an excuse to put down my phone and take a break from technology.

When Arnold comes ‘home’ from work (his ‘work office’ is currently in his parents house – we live in a flat on his parent’s property), I start preparing supper. So far it’s been great to have time to prepare meals in the afternoon and I have way more time to create meals from scratch. I must admit, the lockdown is making it easy for us to choose healthy food over junk food thanks to all the fast food restaurants being closed!


In the evenings, we’ve been watching some of our favourite TV shows and movies together. We’re really enjoying all the extra quality time. I’ve also been blogging and coming up with some new ideas for my blog. I don’t always have time in the week to work on Tailored Inspiration, so this has been a blessing!
