I’m always looking for new spots for date night, and a few of my friends recommended The Yellow Door for dinner and drinks. I’m a big fan of Bocadillos on 1st, so I was keen to visit this new venue.
The Yellow Door is a wine and gin bar in Port Elizabeth’s Walmer suburb that serves meals designed to be shared, including cheese boards and tapas. If you’re a gin lover, you’ll be happy to know that their menu features seven gin cocktails. They also have some fantastic wine pairings, and a menu with a variety of local and international gins.
I booked a table for my boyfriend, Arnold and I for a Friday night. I was surprised as the restaurant and bar is smaller than I anticipated. However, the bar’s intimate set-up is perfect for a quiet date night.
Overall, we had a superb experience – the food was delicious, the dessert moreish, and my gin cocktail lived up to my expectation!
Here’s a look at our date night menu:
Arnold ordered a Bridge Street Brewery Valley Light craft beer. I ordered a Triple 3 Juniper Gin cocktail, with Fevertree Elderflower Tonic, fresh thyme, cucumber ribbons and a cinnamon stick. It’s officially my favourite summer drink – very refreshing!
We ordered the vegetable spring rolls with sweet chilli, and the lamb shank spring rolls with tzatziki. They were really delicious and the tzatziki was amazing!
I enjoyed the deep fried Lindt balls, served with strawberry and a little bit of vanilla ice-cream; Arnold ordered the gourmet ice-cream (he had 1 scoop of peppermint, 1 scoop of salted caramel, 1 scoop of peanut butter). I’ll definitely be back for those deep fried Lindt balls, and the gourmet ice-cream was a treat!
