The weather may be warming up, but that doesn’t mean all of us are quite ready to leave the comfort of our warm beds on the weekend. That being said, I’ve found an excuse for you to get out of bed, swop your pyjamas for your warm winter coat, and get out of the house – a visit to Port Elizabeth’s new foodie spot, The Ploughman.
Here are a few reasons to brave the cold and pay The Ploughman a visit.
Warm and inviting atmosphere
While it may be difficult to persuade you to leave your bed on the weekend, I promise that you won’t be disappointed once you’re at The Ploughman! This cosy restaurant is warm and inviting, and from the moment you walk through the restaurant’s doors, you’ll feel right at home. The Ploughman’s attentive staff will make sure you feel comfortable, and that you leave with a full tummy and smile on your face (especially if you order coffee!).
Stop for coffee and cake after grocery shopping
Nobody likes grocery shopping, especially in winter when you’d rather be at home under the covers. Make the most of your outing to the shops and reward yourself with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. The Ploughman has a cake tasting platter for R55, which includes three cakes to taste, and it can easily be shared between two people (and you’ll feel less guilty about treating yourself). Add a cappuccino to your order, and you’ll be cheerfully whistling down the aisles of Checkers knowing that a sweet treat awaits you after a tedious morning in the shops.
The menu is budget-friendly
Going out for a meal doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg, and The Ploughman understands this. Even after pay day, Port Elizabethans love a good deal. With a well-priced menu, and specials that include a Sunday lunch for R75 a person, and lunch specials for R65 (choose between a vegetable wrap and quinoa salad, or a toasty sandwich or wrap, fries and salad), The Ploughman is a restaurant you know can visit throughout the month, and not just after pay day.
It’s a must-visit if you’re an insta foodie
The Ploughman is a must-visit for local foodies looking for opportunities to take food and coffee photos for their Instagram feed. If snapshots of picture-perfect meals frequent your profile, and you pride yourself on taking enviable food photos for the ‘gram, this restaurant is the place to visit!
A visit to The Ploughman gives you an excuse to drink (more) coffee
Actually I take that back – don’t let anyone ever tell you that you need an excuse to drink coffee. But if, for some reason, you’re ever looking for an excuse, use The Ploughman’s caffeinated drinks as the reason to order another cup of coffee. Their cappuccinos are guaranteed to make your gloomy winter morning just that much brighter, but you can also try an americano, latte or espresso.
The Ploughman can be found at Moffet on Main Lifestyle Centre in Walmer, Port Elizabeth. The restaurant is open from 8am to 6pm daily, and on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 8pm.
