Eating out on a budget: weekly specials in The Bay

Hello, my name is Tayla and I’m a new wife trying to feed a hungry husband on a budget. Help me!

Okay, it’s not that bad, but our budget doesn’t allow us to eat at one of our favourite restaurants every Friday like we did when we were dating, which means that I’m always looking for good specials.

If you’re a fellow foodie in Port Elizabeth looking for budget-friendly restaurant specials, look no further! After finding some of the best restaurant deals in the city, I’ve put together a guide to dining out in The Bay on a budget.  Pick a day of the week and get your friends and family together for a meal at one of these local restaurants.

Beer Yard Burger Special – R50

Spend your Monday night in the yard and enjoy one of their delicious burgers for R50. This special comes highly recommended if you suffer from the Monday blues. Throw in a glass of Jane Doe – Richmond Hill Brewing Company’s signature hard lemonade – and your meal is complete.

Bocadillos half price pizza special

If you’re not in the mood for burgers, you can head over to Bocadillos on First or on Sixth for half price pizza! You can order any one of their classic range pizzas. My favourite pizza is the roasted butternut pizza (R44.50 on Mondays).

Beer Yard Pasta Special – R49

If you thought Beer Yard’s burger special was a good deal, think again! This special gets you a bowl of tasty pasta for only R49. I like to get a glass of Unbelievable red wine with my pasta to reward myself for making it to Tuesday (wine not!).

Half Price Sushi at John Dory’s

If you love sushi as much as I do, head to John Dory’s on Wednesday for half price sushi. The deep-friend futomaki is my absolute favourite!

Bonamia Thursday Special – R99 (250g beef fillet with veggies, potato wedges and a sauce of your choice)

If you’re not in the mood to make supper on Thursday night, book a table at Bonamia and order their Thursday special for a delicious meal. The best part is that you don’t have to feel guilty about eating out cause the beef fillet comes with veggies so everyone wins!

Suki Sushi and Asian Cuisine’s sushi or winter lunch combo – R99

Celebrate the end of the week with some mouthwatering sushi at Suki Sushi and Asian Cuisine. For R99, you can get 16 pieces of sushi. If you overindulged at John Dory’s on Wednesday, you can also choose one of Suki’s winter lunch combos for R99. You can check out the combo meals here. This special is available from Monday to Friday from 12pm to 4pm – perfect for a late lunch (and maybe you won’t have to make supper!).

Baakens Bistro’s Friday Special – R99 (served from 12pm)

If you’re in the mood for steak and chips on Friday night, then this Baakens Bistro special is just what you need! The special includes a 300g matured rump steak served with chips or side salad. You could be healthy and get the side salad with your steak, but calories don’t count on the weekend, right?

BONUS: Sunday

Sunday lunch at The Ploughman – R75 per person.

The Ploughman’s Sunday lunch special includes meat, potatoes, vegetables, rice, gravy and flatbread, as well as dessert.

To make a reservation for Sunday lunch, you can call  079 333 8440.

Are there any other weekday specials that I’ve missed? Let me know and I’ll share them next time!
