A while ago, I attempted a gluten-free diet, but gave it up because I found it too difficult to follow. However, I recently decided to give gluten-free living another try. So I visited the Woolworths website to see what gluten-free products they have on offer, and found this Gluten-Free Chocolate Brownie Mix. I figured that I’d try this mix and let you know if it’s as good as it looks on the box!
Baking The Brownies
To make the brownies, all you need to do is add oil, milk and eggs (125 ml sunflower oil; 70 ml milk; 2 large eggs). And it really is just as easy as that! The recipe suggests that you add chocolate chips and nuts, but I just added chocolate chips to mine (make sure that your chocolate chips are gluten-free). For my brownies, I used chocolate disks, which I crushed with a spoon into small pieces or chips. I find that this works better than chocolate chips, as you get big chunks of chocolate in your brownies – yum!
After you’ve mixed all the ingredients together (according to the instructions on the box), put the mixture in a greased pan lined with baking paper and put it in the oven at 160 degrees Celsius (my oven is old, so I baked my brownies at 180 degrees Celsius) for 15 – 17 minutes for gooey brownies, or 20 – 22 minutes for cake-like brownies. I baked mine for 25 minutes, and they were still soft and gooey. The box says that the mix makes 12 – 16 brownies, and I made exactly 16 reasonably sized brownies.
The brownies came out perfectly! They were super moist and very chocolaty. They were also easy to make, and the overall prep and cooking time was about 35 minutes. If you know that they are gluten-free, you can taste the difference, but they taste just as good as regular brownies. If you’re living the gluten-free life, get yourself a box!

- Use crushed chocolate disks rather than chocolate chips for chunky bits of chocolate in your brownies (make sure that your chocolate of choice is gluten-free)
