I absolutely love makeup, and I love treating myself to a new lipstick or a pretty eyeshadow palette. While I love getting all dolled up, I must admit that I don’t wear a lot of makeup. However, I have a few essential items that I couldn’t live without. I believe that every girl has a few must-have items in her beauty box or make-up bag – whether she loves a simple look or a fabulous, full face of makeup.
I’ve put together a list of everyday essentials that you’ll find in my beauty box. If you’ve got any items that you think should be on this list, send me a message and I’ll check them out!
(P.S. I got this aluminium cosmetics case from Clicks for R215).
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
No look is complete without beautiful long lashes. I’m always looking for a new mascara that won’t break the bank, and I’ve finally found one that I’m happy with. The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (I got mine at Clicks for R129.95) isn’t too expensive, and it creates long, natural-looking lashes. It also isn’t clumpy like some mascaras, which is a bonus! Maybelline has the winning recipe for good mascara – I’ve used the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara before and been impressed.
Clinique Superbalanced Makeup
A good foundation is a worthwhile investment and the only beauty item I’ll splash out on. The Clinique Superbalanced Makeup is easy to apply, and you can build up as much coverage as you need, making it a great choice for both day and night. I find that a little goes a long way with this foundation, and even though it costs a pretty penny, it lasts me a long time. I purchased this bottle at Edgars for R445.
Real Techniques expert face brush
If you’re going to buy a good foundation, you need a good applicator to go with it. The Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is by far the best foundation brush I’ve ever used. The brush makes it easy to apply your makeup evenly, giving you a flawless look. It’s also super soft on your skin! I bought my foundation brush from Takealot for R149; also available at Clicks for R180 (only stocked at the Greenacres store in Port Elizabeth). If you prefer applying your foundation with a sponge, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is also a great choice.
Wet n Wild Ultimate Brow Kit / Essence Eyebrow Designer
I have really light, sparse eyebrows that need lots of help when it comes to definition! These two products give my eyebrows the definition that they need. They are both easy to use and affordable. The Wet n Wild Ultimate Brow Kit (available at Clicks for R54.95) comes with two coloured brow powders, a setting wax, an applicator and a pull out mirror. I use the Essence Eyebrow Designer (got this one at Clicks for R29.95) to give my eyebrows shape before filling them in with the brow powder.
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick
If I’m going for a natural look, but I still want it to look like I’m wearing makeup, I coat my lips with lipstick and I’m ready to go! The Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick gives me a soft, subtle look perfect for a coffee date in the morning, or a night out on the town. And it smells like cotton candy! My shade of choice is Velvet Beige. You can get this gem at Clicks for R139.95.
